Basic Drum Strokes : How to Play a Down Stroke Drum Roll on a Snare

Now we are going to discuss the individual
full stroke. So the full stroke you are going to take the bead and for now we are going
to have it at 12 inches. You could really do it at any high; at 9, 6 3 but for right
now we will do it at 12. The first motion that you are going to do is down. You are
not going to want to prep in any way. The first motion should be like there is a wall
right here. This stick can not move up at all. Now the first motion is going to be down
and it should end in the same exact position. What you can do to test this is have both
sticks with the beads together at 12 inches. Down will be the first motion and you can
really match the beads to each other and make sure that they are at the same height when
you start right now and when you finish. I went a little bit above and right there it
is matched at the up position.

  • first of all, playing at 12 inches does not constitute you raising your hands 1 foot above the rim. 2nd, that's the highest 3 inches i've ever seen.

  • Translation:

You'll watch our videos, and get cut from everywhere you try out.

  • William Mac Tavish

its almost as good as them teaching us hip hop beats on drum set 😮

  • I wanna see the line whose set position is at 12 inches…

  • Why didn't they cut him from Madison or Cadets? Or when he was UMass section leader for 3 consecutive years? He is also now getting his doctorate in percussion. Please do enlighten us on your credentials and where you've marched!

  • I marched:
Top Shelf Percussion – Center Rack 2007
Atlanta A&T Badest Band in the Land Bottom Bass 2010

Plus I was section leader at my high school, where we won states every year, because we are simply the best out there.
No one is as good as me

  • Well there you have it. Top level drum corps and doctoral programs be damned. You were high school section leader and A&T bottom bass. Ever tried out for an world class corp?

  • Maybe you got cut because you don't know what you were doing (unlike this guy). Maybe a bit less time talking shit on good players (like this guy) and working on your hands. No need to insults me just because you never did anything good in the activity and I called you out. Regardless of your next response, his career in the activity will always eclipse yours and he could drum you under the table. Therefore, the rest is just noise but the facts are facts.

  • He may be able to do all those things, drum me under the table, totally eclipse my heart, etc..etc..
    …BUT
I have some food for thought for you, Mr. Camera-Man.

People do not only learn from what they are told, but from what they see.
I don't see a Cadet or a Madison Man when I look at him. I see some dude telling me one thing, and showing me another. 3 inches is not that far from the head, nor will it ever be. My credentials don't mean shit to you, I'm not the one posting an "Expert" video.

  • So, you're right, facts are facts.

Here is some "noise" for you to digest my food with:
